Whether you’d like to support your favourite good cause or reconnect with friends, family and nature, the KM Charity Walk is the place to be this Sunday (June 25).
Advance booking has now closed but participants are welcome to turn up and pay on the day. Walkers will enjoy a relaxed five-mile circular route taking in beautiful Kent countryside or a 10-mile version that includes views of Leeds Castle ‘the loveliest castle in the world’. Hundreds have already registered to walk just for fun or to raise sponsorship for a host of good causes.
This year the Kent Wildlife Trust has set a number of fun challenges to keep children amused including a Scavenger Hunt and Nature Detective worksheet to exchange for special badges on completion of the walk. Youngsters will also have the chance to visit the charity’s stall afterwards to make art with nature using items they have collected along the way.
Every walker will receive a goody bag and limited edition medal at the finish line before celebrating their achievement at the walk’s summer fayre and food festival. Refreshments available for purchase will include barbecue, crêpes, doughnuts, candy floss, slushies, ice cream, wine, cider and soft drinks to enjoy in the gorgeous grounds of Grade II listed mansion Mote House, Maidstone. The summer fayre is also open to non-participants of the KM Charity Walk to attend at a cost of £1 per person.
Live music will be provided courtesy of The Acoustic Tones plus a range of stall holders will include the Bounce Network, which will be giving money saving advice to families and offering the chance to win a Spa Break at Champneys.
Representatives from the European School of Osteopathy will help participants to relax after the annual summer stroll event by providing free massages.
The KM Charity Walk is organised by the KM Charity Team and backed by Glosrose Group, Gullands Solicitors, Mote House Audley, Maidstone Ramblers, Simply Ice Cream, Kent Cider, The Spud Hut, Hush Heath Winery, and The Woodstove Trading Company.
Event organiser Sophie Wallace of the KM Charity Team said: “Come along for a fun day out for all the family. The walk is absolutely beautiful and you couldn’t hope for lovelier surroundings to toast your achievement than our summer fayre in the grounds of Mote House.”
She added: “For those supporting charity, there’s a tasty prize for the biggest individual fundraiser. Chegworth Valley Juice have kindly donated a bumper mixed case of 24 bottles of their delicious Kent juice.”
Prices for the KM Charity Walk are £15 per adult, £2 per child, or £30 for a family ticket for two adults and up to two children. Check in is between 8am and 10am at Mote House, Maidstone and the walk officially begins at 9am.
Non-participants of the KM Charity Walk are able to attend the summer fayre from 11.30am at a cost of £1 per person and purchase refreshments at the food festival.
Events still to come this year include the KM Assault Course on October 8, KM Big Charity Quizzes on July 8 and November 17, and KM Abseil Challenge on November 12. Visit our Event Booking page to find out more.
