Children were regally entertained during a prize storytime session with CBeebies presenter Joanna Adeyinka-Burford.
Joanna, who presents the children’s television programme The Let’s Go Club, had a captive audience as she read Nicholas Allan’s classic picture book The Queen’s Knickers to pupils at Gravel Hill Primary School in Bexleyheath.
The school won the session after pupils from its Seal Class achieved the most impressive performance on a Walk on Wednesday (Wow) Challenge Day on Wednesday, May 2.
The green travel scheme Wow, as it will be renamed from September, is organised by charity School Inspirational Services, for whom Ms Adeyinka-Burford is an honorary patron.
The initiative encourages families to walk to school, with classes competing each week to be awarded the Green Class of the Week Trophy.
A monthly inter-school green travel challenge awards winning classes tickets to leisure attractions or visits by storytellers.
Schools joining Super Wow by July 24 will get a 20% discount, and if they join by July 1 they will be entered into a prize draw to win 400 books. Contact Sarah Clyne at SClyne@schoolinspirationalservices.co.uk.
Super Wow’s supporters include Whites Transport, housing company Orbit, Countrystyle Recycling, Golding Vision (part of Golding Homes), Specsavers, Eurostar, the London Borough of Bexley and Three R’s Teacher Recruitment.
