Tickets are rapidly running out for the KM Spring Abseil, so people need to act fast to ensure they don’t miss out.

Kent’s only fundraising abseil in 2019 takes place on Sunday March 17, and two Specsavers employees are among those who have already guaranteed their participation.

Sara Williams and Becca Kemp are first-time abseilers, and looking forward to doing the challenge together. The pair work together at Specsavers’ Maidstone store.

Store manager Ms Williams will be raising funds for the Stroke Association, while optical assistant Ms Kemp is fundraising for Guide Dogs.

Ms Williams said: “I’ve seen people from the store do it before and been intrigued and thought I would really like to do it.

“So when the opportunity came around I tried to get in first.

“It’s been an ambition to raise money for the Stroke Association in the past but I haven’t had the right opportunity.”

Ms Kemp agreed that the challenge looked like a fun experience and an ideal opportunity to raise money for a worthy cause.

The KM Spring Abseil provides participants with the chance to raise money for charities of their choice, and takes place on Sunday, March 17, at Thomas Place in Maidstone, where there will be a 100ft drop.

It is supported by Housing & Care 21, Maidstone Scaffolding and Specsavers.

Organiser Dominic Comins said: “I recommend anybody looking to take part in the abseil to take a leaf out of Sara and Becca’s book by booking as soon as they can.

“This is a one-off event, with no other fundraising abseil taking place in Kent this year.

“I guarantee it will be an exhilarating experience, but you do not need to be a member of the SAS to enjoy it.”

Participants are asked to try to raise a minimum of £75. And the person who raises the most money will win a £150 Eurotunnel voucher.

Tickets costs £25, but there is a £5 discount when using the booking code KMNews19. You need to be over 14 to take part, and no more than 16 stone in weight.
