A Sussex business hopes an awards scheme will bring recognition to the vital but often overlooked contribution of supply teachers.
3D Recruit Education is one of the key partner organisations for the Sussex Teacher of the Year Awards.
Amy Gudgeon, who is a recruitment manager at the firm, said the awards were a perfect fit for the Battle-based business.
Amy said: “Here at 3D Recruit we specialise in finding first-class supply teachers for schools, so we’d obviously love to see some recognition for their work.
“Supply teachers do a vital job, often providing emergency cover at very short notice, and many schools wouldn’t be able to manage without them.
“But lacking the permanent status of the full-time staff they work alongside, all too often they don’t get the credit they deserve.
“So, if there are any parents and fellow teachers out there who have been particularly impressed by the work of an individual supply teacher, I would urge them to send in nominations on their behalf.
“3D Recruit also believes newly qualified teachers deserve all the encouragement they can get.
“The first steps in the classroom represent a steep learning curve for any teacher, and I really look forward to seeing a significant number of nominations in this category.”
Organised by educational charity Inspire Schools, the awards have separate categories for newly qualified, primary and secondary school teachers, as well as for non-teaching staff and volunteers.
Awards coordinator Karen Brinkman said: “I am so pleased that 3D Recruit are on board to help us with awards judging process.
“With their knowledge, experience and insight, there can’t be many people or organisations around with more awareness of the county’s educational sector and its challenges.”
The judges will select overall winners for the whole county, as well as singling out examples of excellence in Sussex’s individual districts.
The deadline for nominations is March 1, and the awards ceremony takes place at Brighton’s Jurys Inn Hotel in June.
In addition to Jurys Inn and 3D Recruit, the awards’ other supporters are Kreston Reeves, Sussex Newspapers, the Education People, Imperial College London, East Sussex and Brighton and Hove councils, EduKit and Orbit.
