Two Dartford schools have been recognised for their commitment to walking to school.
Joydens Wood Junior and Wentworth Primary were winners at the KM Walk to School Awards.
Special guest at the event at the Ramada Maidstone Hotel was conservationist and botanist, professor David Bellamy and winners were presented with their certificates by sponsors.
Professor Bellamy said he was proud to be involved with walking to school and welcomed the chance to recognise the achievements of those taking part in the schemes.
The Top Walking Bus Team for Dartford and Gravesham went to Joydens Wood.
Simon Dolby, chief executive of the KM Charity Team, which runs the walk to school schemes, said they were chosen because of the “wholehearted” commitment of the four volunteers including two non-parent local residents.
“One has donated waterproof coats for adult volunteers and warm hats for children on the bus,” he added.
“The excellent behaviour of the youngsters who walk in all weathers was also a contributing factor.”
Wentworth Primary School was the Top Walk on Wednesday (WOW) School after the scheme got off to a flying start in October.
Mr Dolby said “Its success comes down to the fact that it started after a talk to staff and children during a health awareness/science week.
“WOW started with foundation and key stage 1 children but soon involved older siblings who were eager to get rewards for walking. Parents have also noted the health benefits to themselves.”
The awards were backed by Ground:zero Productions, the Ramada Maidstone Hotel, Veolia Environmental Services, and D.Isom Printers.
KM Walk to School schemes are KCC and Medway Council-led initiatives and are sponsored by Denne, Bel UK (Mini Babybel), Ringway, Veolia, Eurostar, The Co-operative, Southern Water and P&0 Ferries.
