Two Ashford primary schools have been recognised for their commitment to improving the environment by removing car journeys from the roads.
Great Chart and Hamstreet were presented with certificates at a glittering KM Walk to School Awards ceremony.
In the Ashford/Folkestone and Dover district, Great Chart was chosen as the top new walking bus.
Simon Dolby, chairman of the KM Charity Team, which runs walk to school schemes, said: “Enthusiasm is a great fuel at Great Chart and the bus is driven forwards with frequent assembly celebrations of its successes.
“It introduced breakfast at a taster launch and a party has helped nurture interest and support at the school.”
Hamstreet Primary was chosen as the top Walk on Wednesday school for the area, taking 1,039 school run car journeys off the roads in terms one and two.
Mr Dolby said: “The figures show that youngsters appreciate that walking is a healthy start to their day and relish the competitive element, ensuring that WOW is a great success.”
The Kentish Express also picked up an award on the night, with editor Robert Barman receiving a media award for the newspaper’s support of walk to school schemes.
