How do I enter?

  • Groups of children are asked to sing I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) by The Proclaimers. To assist you can download the backing track and song sheet from this website.See below.
  • Schools can write different lyrics to go with the tune or use our amended version of the words. You do not need to have backing music to enter.
  • Send in a cassette, cd or other format of your group of children singing the song. This must arrive no later than noon on Monday, June 28, 2010. Send to: KM Charity Team, Gazette House, 5-8 Estuary View Business Park, Boorman Way, Whitstable Kent CT5 3SE. An adult contact should send this in and must include their name, address, telephone and email contact details, as well as the name of the class, school, walking bus or club the children are from.
  • Children attending primary school or nursery in Kent and Medway in July 2010 are eligible to enter.
  • Our panel of judges will select a maximum of eight groups to go into the final. Winners will be notified before the end of term and the names of schools, clubs or schemes will be published on this website.
  • The eight finalists will be invited into Independent Music Production's (IMP) recording studio in Canterbury on Sunday, October 3 to professionally record two tracks: I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) and a special walking bus song.

How do we top the charts?

  • Both tracks the groups of children sing will be available to download from November 1 from this website at a cost of £1 which will go to charity. Sales of each group's version of Five Hundred Miles will be counted until December 17 at which point each day in the run up to Christmas we will reveal their 'walk to school song chart' position. Tracks can continue to be purchased and downloaded after December 17 but will not count towards the chart position.
  • The No.1 selling charity track will be revealed on the KM walk to school website on Christmas Day!
  • On December 18 the KM Charity Team will email details of IMP products you may purchase relating to this initiative to all those who bought the charity single. These include framed CDs of the charity single with a photo of the singers printed on the front of the CD. No funds from these souvenir purchases will go to charity.

The school or group that earns the No.1 chart position will receive a free VIP version of this framed single to proudly display at school.
