The annual KM Charity Team Forum is an opportunity for schools, charities, PTAs and good causes to come together and find out how the KM Charity Team can support you. Use this half-day event to discover how we can help you in your fundraising, literacy, walk to school and green travel initiatives, and PTA development
You can choose from a range of sessions during the morning in the beautiful surroundings of Mercure Great Danes Hotel, Ashford Road, Hollingbourne, Maidstone, Kent ME17 1RE on Friday, 13 October 2017. If you have any questions about the Forum, please ring the KM Charity Team on 08442 640292.
The timetable is as follows:
8.45-9.15am Annual Meeting of the KM Charity Team
8.30-9.30am Welcome drink and networking. Teas and coffees – don’t forget to book yourself in for a drink
9.30-10.45am KM Charity Team – outline for the morning, announcement by KM Charity Team, photocall and presentations
You will be able to choose from the following workshop sessions for later in the morning:
Session 1: 10.45-11.30am. Workshops and speakers.
Session 2: 11.30-12.15. Workshops and speakers.
Session 3: 12.15-1.00. Workshops and speakers.
There are two options for each session which focus on the needs of either schools or charities, but you may attend any session you wish.
Session 1. Walk to School Master Class – Find out how school staff can become a Green Champion and how your staff can tap into Pupil Voice to encourage children to drive the green travel message. How to stage a road safety awareness week and tackle congestion at the school gates.
Session 2. Buster’s Book Club Master Class – Join the focus group to talk through the detail of the highly successful Buster’s Book Club scheme that encourages home reading. Help suggest tweaks to the next version of the scheme or learn about it if you are new to the system. Buster’s Book Club is causing a sensation in the county with schools achieving seven and a half million minutes of reading last academic year.
Session 3. Making Reading Rock – Charlotte Raby and Emily Guille-Marrett are founders of Reading Fairy classes and story events for Under 5s. They also write and consult on early reading for organisations including: Collins Education, Oxford University Press, Pearson Education and Scholastic. Passionate about early reading, Charlotte and Emily both have visiting lectureships at universities to inspire the next generation of teachers and children’s writers. Emily said: “We know that learning to read changes everything, but how do we make the process meaningful and fun? We will explore how to connect to children’s experiences, and use quality children’s literature alongside the phonics approach to make sure every child finds reading a pleasure. Packed with practical tips and inspirational ideas to make reading rock in your classroom!”
Session 1. Getting the editor on side – Find out how to apply or fine-tune your application to be KM Charity of the Year. Just imagine having the local editor as your champion for 12 months! Team up with KM – Find out how to use events such as the KM Colour Run and KM Dragon Boat Race to get your hands on a share of £200k in 2018.
Session 2. The Professionals – we are bringing in top charity advisers on insurance, risk, finance and accountancy to brief you on how to avoid current issues affecting the Third Sector in Kent. Session led by headline sponsor Kreston Reeves and Jelf insurance.
Session 3. Cashing in – Grant expert Michael James will detail how to maximise your chances of winning funding from charitable trusts and institutional bodies.
