Supernova stormed to victory at the Maidstone heat of the KM Big Quiz on Friday night pipping The Moomins to first place by five points.

The events attracted 35 teams and raised more than £6,500 for good causes, including the Maidstone KM Charity of the Year which this year is the Heart of Kent Hospice.

Kent brewer Shepherd Neame donated the entire stock for the charity bar, which was manned by volunteers from Barclays bank.

The small army of volunteers who helped stage the night were praised by event organiser Kate Baker.

Kate said: “The generosity of local firms who gave their financial support and volunteers who gave their time helped make the Big Quiz such a success.”

Raffle prizes were presented by Hornby and Fenwicks of Canterbury, Shepherd Neame, The Horseshoes in East Farleigh, Kent Event Centre, The Heart of Kent Hospice and KM Charity Team.

She added they were grateful to scorers Deirdre and Brian Mewse and the Kent Event Centre was thanked for supplying food for volunteers on the night.

Main event sponsors were Kent Event Centre, Shepherd Neame, Barclays, Independent Music Productions, Day, Smith & Hunter Chartered Accountants and Business Advisors, Maidstone Scaffolding, The Heart of Kent Hospice and P&0 Ferries.
