Could your team of brainiacs claim the KM Big Charity Quiz 2013 crown?
Here we name our ‘Magnificant Seven’ past winners, and invite you to compete to join the roll of honour in this eighth year of our wine and wisdom competition.
Teams of eight people are invited to sign up for the event at Lordswood Leisure Centre on Friday, November 15, in aid of three good causes including the Oliver Fisher Special Care Baby Trust.
Two-time Medway winners Supernova – who also won our county-wide grand final in 2012 – will be back to contest last year’s Medway winners The Ad Hokhs, and are keen to take on newcomers.
Supernova is actually a group of 15 friends who take it in turns to enter competitions in smaller teams of eight, and their line-up this year promises to be as sharp as ever.
“We’re a reasonably strong team,” said modest group captain Richard Cribb, a retired teacher from Rainham. “We have team members who’ve appeared on Mastermind, Brain of Britain and Fifteen to One, and we’re drawn from Rochester, Chatham, Gillingham, Walderslade and Strood.”
But the experienced quizzer wouldn’t like other would-be teams to be put off by the stiff competition. “We all see the importance of raising money for charity, so we turn up to support and have fun. If we win, we win. If not, we go home and analyse where we went wrong!” joked Mr Cribb.
This year’s quiz will raise also funds for Lordswood Leisure Centre – which has donated its venue to host the event – and the KM Charity Team’s children’s road safety work.
So, start gathering your quiz gang now in aid of these worthy charities. The price of a table for eight people is just £65, inclusive of a ploughman’s meal and a free drink, but you can get a £10 discount and a free bottle of wine for your team with the code MEBQEB13.
Support is being lent on the night by sponsors Qube Recruitment, whose staff will collect teams’ quiz papers. The event is also being sponsored by Shepherd Neame, P&O Ferries, Independent Music Productions (IMP) and Barclays.
