What books did you get for Christmas?

I had such a fantastic Christmas and New Year playing with friends and family and of course opening lots of presents! I hope you did too. Some of my favourite gifts were books so I was excited to meet up with children from Blean Primary School to find out what books they are reading at the moment. Phil and I loved their choices ‘Trixie, the Witch’s Cat’ by Nick Butterworth and ‘Commotion in the Ocean’ by Giles Andreae and David Wojtowycz. Both are really great!

Mister Maker at story time

Phil Gallagher – Mister Maker – reads with Jacob Lipscombe, seven, and Martha Curry, nine. Can you see me at the front?

I’m sure you got some super books for Christmas too – and we really want to hear about them. We are giving away prizes for the best photos of children reading books to their teddies or cuddly toys. But don’t forget to tell us the name of the book and why you love reading it!

Phil, who plays Mister Maker on the CBeebies TV show, is an Honorary Patron of the KM Charity Team, and I am the charity’s mascot. This year is a Year of Reading for the KM Charity Team. This means there will be lots of fun events happening all through the year and we hope children and families will discover how much they love reading too.

I’ll let you know more about the events in future blog posts but I can spill the beans on a couple of things. The KM Charity Team is putting on awards events for brilliant teachers and there will be fantastic competitions for schools. In fact, schools that are top for walking to school or reading could win a special story time with a TV celebrity! Keep checking in to my blog for the latest news to make sure you don’t miss out.

The thing I am most excited about is the photo competition where you send in a picture of yourself with your own teddy – but make sure you are reading your favourite book!

The best photos will be pictured right here in the Phil and Ted blog and win a prize.
