Kent’s best quiz teams battled it out for the title of KM Big Quiz County Champions.
Sixteen teams drawn from four KM Big Quiz heats staged last year took part in the county showdown at the Ashford International Hotel on Friday night.
The event had a close finish. A misspelling of Booker Prize author Anna Burns’ name by team Moomins left them one point behind Supernova – earning the Medway team the title.
Earlier in the evening Quizmaster Simon Dolby had paid tribute to two members of the Supernova team who had died in 2018. Both former captain Dick Cribb and Ken Owen had passed away, making the win for the team all the more emotional.
Scores for the finalists ranged from 66 per cent to 86 per cent correct, showing the strong calibre of the teams making the final.
The KM Big Quiz runs four times a year – in Medway, Canterbury, Ashford, and Maidstone – culminating in a champions’ final. Each event raises significant funds for causes thanks to a partnership of businesses. Independent Music Productions supplies and operates the PA, Shepherd Neame donates a fully stocked charity bar, Hornby provides prizes for the raffle, and Barclays matches funds raised to boost the charity pot.
The first heats of 2019 will take place on Friday, February 15 in Chatham and Friday, April 26 in Canterbury. To find out more or to book your team, visit www.KmBigQuiz.co.uk and use discount code KMNEWS19.
