A Crawley leisure centre has thrown its weight behind primary school literacy initiative Buster’s Book Club.

Everyone Active’s K2 leisure centre will provide free-swim vouchers to the pupils of winning classes in the reading reward scheme.

The club uses competitions and other incentives to encourage primary school pupils to spend more time reading for pleasure at home.

Prizes include a Class of the Week Trophy, celebrity story-time visits, and tickets to visitor and leisure attractions, and K2 is the first venue in West Sussex to provide incentives for the scheme

The leisure centre said: “Everyone Active is very excited and proud to be the first organisation in West Sussex to offer reward vouchers as part of this fantastic book club scheme.

“It’s great to know that children are being encouraged to read more, and we are looking forward to seeing lots of children visiting our swimming pool over the coming months.”

Buster’s Book Club literacy coordinator Kay Devine said: “We’re so grateful to Everyone Active for supporting Buster’s in this way.

“The fun, competitive element of Buster’s is so effective in inspiring children to read more at home, and these vouchers will provide them with even more motivation.”

Buster’s Book Club is run by educational charity Inspire Schools, and also supported by Gatwick Airport Community Trust, Drusillas, Sussex Newspapers, Orbit, Summerfields Leisure Centre, Brighton Sea Life Centre, 3D Recruit, Little Cheyne Court, Rotary and Source Park.
