Pupils were rewarded for their commitment to green travel with an environmentally themed story-time session delivered by a Kent children’s author.
Anthony Cooper read his book, The Curious Tale of the Dodo, to the children of Vigo Village School near Gravesend.
Mr Cooper treated the children to his tale of the flightless bird’s extinction after the school’s Year 4 class won a green-travel challenge with Inspire Schools initiative Active Wow.
Super Wow encourages families to walk to school, with classes competing each week to be awarded the Green Class of the Week Trophy.
Speaking to the children after reading out his book, Mr Cooper said: “I’ve had a great visit to Vigo school, and I just wanted to say thank you so much for having me to come and read to you The Curious Tale of the Dodo, which is how the dodo became extinct. But I think you probably know as much about that as I do now.
“Keep up your walking and maybe I’ll come back again next year.”
The children of Year 4 class were also treated to free-entry vouchers for Hemsley Conservation Centre, just down the road from the school.
Super Wow is supported by Whites Transport, Ashford International Hotel, Orbit, Volker Highways, Countrystyle Recycling, Golding Vision, Specsavers, Eurostar, Three R’s Teacher Recruitment, Whitefriars, Kent, Maidstone, Bexley, Medway and Ashford councils, London Array and EduKit.
