Two Sussex schools have won awards in recognition of their success with reading-reward scheme Buster’s Book Club.
Ninfield Church of England in Battle School won the Buster’s Book Club Best Newcomer award, and Laura Renesto of the Baird Primary Academy in Hastings won the Best Staff Champion award.
The awards were presented at the Jurys Inn Waterfront Hotel in Brighton on Thursday (June 27).
Buster’s Book Club uses competitions and other incentives to encourage primary school pupils to spend more time reading for pleasure at home.
Buster’s Book Club coordinator Kay Devine said: “Many, many congratulations to both schools.
“They thoroughly deserve this recognition for the commitment and enthusiasm they have shown in embracing Buster’s.
“Both schools have recorded impressive numbers of reading minutes with the club, and I am sure this is having a significant impact on their pupils’ literacy performance.
“I hope their success inspires other schools to sign up with the scheme.”
Pupils from Ninfield Church of England School will soon be treated to a storytime session with Sussex children’s author Vashti Hardy, creator of the Brightstorm and Wildspark books, after winning a Buster’s Book Club district challenge.
Apart from Brighton Sea Life Centre and Drusillas, the club is supported by organisations including Sussex Newspapers, Orbit, Summerfields Leisure Centre, 3D Recruit, Little Cheyne Court wind farm, Rotary, Gatwick Airport and Source Park.
