Sparking excitement in science

The Bright Spark Awards are staged to help make science cool. Students are encouraged to collaborate using cross-curricular skills in maths, IT, science and engineering to innovate and create.

Competition categories are: Innovation, Investigation, and Invention.

There are no age restrictions so both primary and secondary schools can get involved.

There is no limit to the number of entries a school or parent can submit, but each entry will be judged separately.

There will be two categories, Home Entries & School Entries

If you are a Home Entry then you can submit your project via the link below and include pictures or a video which we will use on our social media. This could relate to a topic you were learning at school, a fun experiment or even submitting GCSE prototypes or coursework that you have worked on.We want to see all of these! If you would like help planning a new experiment you can download a science experiment template below. We will pick finalists and you will be judged in your own category. The winners of the Home Category will win a cash prize of £50.

If you are a teacher entering a school project then you can enter using the link below and include pictures, video and descriptions of the project in the same way. We will judge all school entries together and pick finalists to be in with a chance of winning the Bright Spark Awards 2021, there will be a cash prize for the winners of £500. We do encourage you to still work in groups, even virtually, using Skype, Zoom, House Party and email to name but a few ways!

Finalists will be judged by our ‘dragons’ and it is run in a dragons’ den-style format. We will ask that all finalists send us a two minute video presenting their project and the judges will watch all of these to determine the Bright Sparks 2021 Winners. Some finalists will even receive a money can’t buy experience prize from our Dragons.

Overall Bright Spark Awards champions will win a top prize of £500.

We want to see all your projects and give all children a chance to create something at home or at school.

Nominations for the Bright Spark Awards must be received by noon on Friday 25th June 2021. Enter via the button below or by emailing charityteam@thekmgroup.co.uk. Good Luck!
