Kent Literacy Awards

Please note the nomination deadline has been extended to 9 October 2020

Celebrating excellence in literacy programmes across Kent

Nominate now Newsletter sign-up

The Kent Literacy Awards showcases initiatives that develop children and teens’ reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. Nominations are accepted from teachers, support staff and management at primary and secondary schools in Kent, Medway, Bromley and Bexley.

Usually nominations officially open on 1 March and culminate with an awards celebration at Hempstead House Hotel at Bapchild (near Sittingbourne) in July each year. The event includes a fundraising raffle with proceeds raised from the Kent Literacy Awards going to support reading projects in the region. However, due to the disruption caused during COVID-19, this year’s entry deadline has been extended to 9 October. As an additional precautionary measure, the winners will be announced during a virtual awards ceremony streamed online towards the end of the year.

It’s more important than ever before to recognise and share the techniques that are engaging children in developing their reading, writing, speaking and listening skills, whether these techniques are used in school or delivered virtually. Many schools were incredibly innovative and flexible during lockdown and devised wonderful ways to keep children motivated and learning at home. We hope to discover more about these initiatives and urge everyone in schools to take the time to nominate what has worked for their children.

Please take a look at the list of awards categories below and nominate the themes, schemes and innovations that have made a real difference at your school. The aim is to celebrate your triumphs and help spread best practice across the county.

Deadline to nominate is: Noon on 9 October.

Michelle Sutherland - Literacy Leader, Joydens Wood Junior School

Michelle Sutherland from Joydens WoodI absolutely loved the awards presentation and have come back inspired and keen to implement some of the ideas I heard about.

Our school is thrilled with our success, although we feel very humble next to all those inspiring people who also received awards. I can't tell you how much it means to be valued and appreciated in what is such a demanding and challenging job.

Supported by:

Kent Literacy Awards is staged as a fundraising event to support the educational services delivered by Inspire Schools / KM Charity Team in south east schools. No charge is made to submit a nomination, but funds raised through corporate sponsorship are used to support our work.
