Your invitation to be a Young Cook
Young people are annually invited to take part in the south east’s Masterchef-style event.
The winners will receive a share of £500 as follows:
- £50 Primary category winner
- £100 Family category winner
- £150 Secondary category winner
- £200 Overall Young Cooks champion.
To enter, they prepare a dish they have created, which they think is delicious, healthy and showcases their cooking skills.
The Young Cooks judges love to see local produce being used, so thought should be given to this.
Any child or young person aged 6 – 19 may enter Young Cooks during the nomination window.
Finalists are invited to cook their dish for our VIP panel at the live final, which this year will be held at East Kent College Broadstairs campus.
The awards lunch will have a fundraising element with additional seats available to purchase on a paid basis and a raffle held. Proceeds raised go to literacy and road safety projects in the region.
The aim is to develop the confidence and abilities of young people to prepare meals to a fixed budget, as well as to increase awareness of healthy options and locally grown produce.
Finalists will not only have to cook their dish, they will have to spend a few minutes explaining to the judges how and why they created it, so confident presentational skills are also needed.
Deadline to submit a completed entry: Complete the simple online entry form before midnight on 6 November.

Kent Cooks is staged as a fundraising event to support the educational services delivered by the KM Charity Team in Kent schools. No charge is made to submit a nomination, but funds raised through corporate sponsorship are used to support our work.
