Bookbinder’s Photo Stories Project
The Bookbinders project was launched in 2017, to help improve literacy skills of former homeless people and to provide an opportunity for them to voice their opinions in a safe non-judgemental environment.
Initially, engagement was difficult, so we secured some funding from Canterbury City Council to try new ways to engage people. One of these was the Photo Stories Project and during the summer of 2018 we began working with Catching Lives, an independent charity aimed at supporting the rough sleepers, homeless and vulnerably housed in Canterbury and East Kent.
We produced a booklet featuring three people who use Catching Lives services. The booklet is a largely pictorial account of the places they spend much of their time around Canterbury centre.
As well as promoting Bookbinders and Catching Lives, this booklet has been produced as a learning aid for those with poor literacy skills and a resource to help educate children and young people about homelessness and related issues.
