Helping children to be safe on the street
Developing the road safety skills of children is a key part of the work undertaken by the Inspire Schools Team.
The charity offers two distinct services: Road safety skill tests which is appropriate for primary schools; and the On the street assessment exclusively for walking bus children to take.

Laksan Paramanayagam and Daisy Lou Hammond from Gravel Hill Primary School, Bexley celebrate passing their road safety skill tests.
Road safety skill tests: Any child at a school that has signed up to use the KM Charity Team road safety package may take the test at bronze, silver or gold tests. Here is a resource that the children can read before taking our road safety test: Tales of the Road
Results are added into the KM School Portal using the school’s secure log-in. The KM Charity Team then produce personalised colour certificates for each child passing the test. Children of any age at primary school may take the bronze, silver and gold test.
If the child is on an official KM Walking Bus operated in partnership with Kent County Council and Medway Council then the pupil will also be issued with a textile bronze, silver or gold badge similar to those created for the Scouts or Guides, which they can stitch to their tabard or baseball cap.
On the street assessment: An additional service which is exclusive to walking bus children is the on-the-street assessment. Children passing the practical assessment of their behaviour and conduct on the walking bus receive a limited edition blue CREW tabard to wear on the walking bus. This is in recognition of the supportive role they are playing on the scheme in their final terms on the walking bus. Blue CREW tabards can only be issued to children in their final two years at primary school.
